What would you do if you want to clean the dust off of your guitar strings without removing the strings? Use a dry or damp cotton t-shirt and run it up and down?

I used to take a thin cotton cloth and wipe the guitar strings up and down, and slide the thin cloth under the strings as well to remove the dirt as best as I could. But I found it is tough for me to clean my guitar strings completely because there are still some dust under the strings and other areas which I’m not able to get rid of. I have to wait until the day I’m changing my guitar strings, then only I could clean these areas thoroughly.

Ever since I had been introduced with this cool little device called The String Cleaner, strings cleaning seem to be so easy than anything else. This guitar string cleaner is so convenience to use and save me lot of trouble and time. It makes string cleaning a whole lot faster and is real useful for impatient guitar player like me, because most of the times I have to set up and pack up real fast.

Quick and Easy

The String Cleaner is a flat little cartridge that opens and closes over the strings on both top and bottom. Slide it underneath your guitar strings and run it up and down a few times, it will clean up your strings in a few seconds. This guitar string cleaner works just great! Plain and simple.

Environmental Friendly

Another cool feature of The String Cleaner is the microfiber pad is washable. This makes the device environmental friendly and not just another disposable item in store. It is a chemical free product. Just wash up in soap and water and let dry. You can re-use this guitar string cleaner without any problem.

The String Cleaner is definitely an interesting approach to an old problem. This device is simply the easiest, no hassle, no mess, way to clean your guitar strings. Read more user reviews.

Shredder
I have used the device for a month now and have to say that I am truly amazed by how well it works. Having almost destroyed my neck with other products, I was forced to clean my strings with a cloth or my fingernails, which is nasty. I have been waiting for something like this for a loooong time. It is so easy to use, highly efficient, and it cleans the strings underneath! [Read full review]

D. Burns
I have been in the music business for over 30 years and this product really works.
Made primarly for 6 string instruments, this little device is so simple anyone can use it.you simply open it up, slip under the strings then close and slide, that’s all there is to it, no cleaning soultion needed but can be added if you desire, so far I have not needed any soultion.

Take it from a guitar player in nashville it really does work. [Read full review]

I found the sweats from my hands seem to be very acidic as I tend to wear out guitar strings rather quickly. I put on a new set of strings and play my guitar for about 2 hours. I can see rust forming and strings started to discoloring. This is very annoying. Is there any way to make it a little more manageable?

Answer

Everybody has different body chemistry. Some people has sweaty palm and their hand will corrode a set of strings within a week of playing. This is because they having the so called ‘Acid Hand’. You may try the below tricks:

Use coated strings. Most acid hands kill un-coated string pretty fast if compare to coated one. You may try Elixir Polyweb Coating which has been highly recommended to guitarist who has acid hand.

Wash your hands with soap before you play.

Use guitar string lubricant to prolong your strings life. Spray it on clean cloth and rub the strings down before and after you play.

Question

I had been told by one of an experience guitar player I shall not remove all guitar strings at once. I should remove one string at a time and replace each as I go. The reason is by removing all strings at once, I will affect the tension and create harm to the guitar neck. Is it true?

Answer

Yes, I heard about this as well but personally I do not agree with it because there’s no documented negative effect of removing all strings. I don’t think doing this will damage your guitar neck.

I always remove all strings from the guitar so that I could easily clean and wipe down the fingerboard with micro fiber, follow by putting on the new set. This had actually save lot of my time and effort.

Guitar strings need to be protected to ensure longevity. However, it seems like not many people know how to properly maintain their acoustic guitar to keep that desired tone. Below are some of the tips on how to clean guitar strings.

Wipe your guitar strings

This is very important for maintenance. Wipe down your guitar strings with a soft and dry cloth each time you finish your practicing. What you need to do is simply put the cloth in between the strings and the fingerboard. Run it all the way down the length of the neck of the guitar. Get rid of all the perspiration and rust.

Use string cleaner

There’s a great product called String Cleaner. Just glide it on with the applicator and wipe it off with the provided lint-free cloth. It will keep your guitar strings clean and allow you to play faster. It also reduces excessive finger noise. You can use it on strings, the fretboard, and back of the guitar neck.

Use quality strings

There are various types of guitar strings on the market. Each product is not created with equal quality. You may opt for a good-quality brand of strings such as D’Addario or Elixir. These strings are very consistent and last longer.

Whether you are a guitar beginner or professional guitarist, taking good care of your guitar strings is always essential.
