I love the black and gold tones of these Ernesto Palla strings, I play classical guitar and the bluesy sound I get from the nylon strings is perfect – works well every time. I like how stiff the strings are, as a intermediate player, it gives me great control over the sound than some of the other classical strings I’ve tried, and since I’m still working on my sound and learning, I didn’t want to invest a lot in a top-quality set of strings, for my needs and budget, these strings work out very well.

Ernesto Palla strings have the ball end, so it is a good fit for someone who isn’t as adept at replacing their guitar strings. I like how clear and crisp the sound is when I use these and while they don’t produce nearly the volume of some strings, I found it great because I’d prefer to control the volume more and produce a more intimate, bluesy sound and of all the classical guitar strings I’ve used, these give me that elusive tone I was looking for.

With the old guitar my grandfather gave me, it’s been a treat learning how to play and remembering that lonesome twang he was able to produce. Since I’ve switched to these classical guitar strings, I feel like I’m getting closer to the sound my granddad used to make and it’s been a real blast, especially these last few nights, being able to sit outside or just kick back on my couch and play. Every set of nylon strings gives you a different kind of sound, it’s true, but I just love the slightly muted sounds I get from these strings, it really is amazing and they’ve made an amazing difference in the way I play.

The strongest selling points of Ernesto Palla strings would have start with the sound – kind of low and bluesy, not too loud, and a little bit crisp and clean when you need it. It’s an unusual blend of folk, country, and blues if you play them right. Second thing, I have to admit, is what a value these are. I’ve paid a lot more money for classical guitar strings I wasn’t nearly as happy with. Sad, but true. In this economy, you have to factor in value and for the money, I have not found nylon strings that work as well for me. Last selling point for these – you get a great look with your classic guitar – the black and gold colors of the strings look as good as they sound.

Many people tend to focus on choosing the best acoustic guitar strings for their instrument. But they did not realize that beside string selection, guitar picks will also make a huge difference on the sound. Choosing your best guitar picks is actually an important part in guitar playing.

A guitar pick is your instrument’s best pal. You use it to strum on your stringed instrument to produce sound. This tiny little thing is usually made by various kind of material like plastic, stone, wood, rubber, etc. They are often shaped into rounded triangle and come with different kind of thickness. When you go to music store you will find there are almost 100 different types of guitar picks displaying in front of you. I’m sure you will feel a little overwhelm and confuse to make you selection.

In general, major differences in guitar picks are:

• Material: Plastic, wood, metal, stone, etc
• Design – grids, holes, etc
• Size – small, medium, large
• Thickness / Weight – light, med-light, medium, med-heavy, heavy
• Edge modification – Bevels, rounding etc.

The thinner a guitar pick, the brighter the sound. If you use a thicker picks, you will get mellow and warmer sound. As for the pick’s edge, more rounded tip usually sounds mellower. If it is more pointed tip, you will get a brighter tone. Different materials, designs and shapes produce different tones. They also play a part in user comfort and playability.

So what is the best guitar picks? This is subject to personal preference. To me, I use thin guitar picks for strumming and mediums for picking. Dunlop Tortex is one of my all time favorite. These guitar picks feel good in your fingertips and won’t slip out of your hand easily. They produce great sounds too.

My advice to you is to buy an assortment of cheaper guitar picks in different materials and thicknesses, and take notes on which produce the sound and projection you prefer. Guitar picks are generally cheap investment and you can actually have as much experiment as you can before you stick to your best guitar picks.

I started my acoustic guitar lesson and I’m practicing hard everyday. My fingers become sore & very painful. Can I change my steel strings with nylon strings, so that it is easier to play and won’t hurt me that much?

Answer:

This is not recommended. Nylon strings are under less tension and are larger in diameter, which make you think it would be “easier” to play. However, acoustic guitar (steel strings) and classical guitar (nylon strings) are both different in design. The nut, saddle & tuning gear design of acoustic guitar are not suited to nylon strings.
